Budapest & the Danube
A capital built along the Danube, with a World Heritage river frontage.
Budapest sits on both banks of the Danube. On the Pest side, the Hungarian Parliament Building — the Országház — was designed by Imre Steindl in neo-Gothic style and opened in 1902 after seventeen years of construction. At 268 metres long, 123 metres wide and 96 metres tall, it has been the largest building in Hungary since completion. Across the river, Buda Castle crowns the hill above the Chain Bridge.
